Matthew Dewayne Smithson age 40, died Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Born Dec. 17, 1979 in Nashville, he was the son of Richard C. Smithson, Jr. and Sandra Lee Hooper. Matt was a resident of Gordonsville and a construction worker. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Hooper of Nashville; father, Ricky Smithson, Jr. of Hermitage; grandfathers, Leroy Canfield of Watertown and Richard C. Smithson, Sr. of Nashville; aunts, Renee Haynes and Sonya Smithson; uncles, David R. Smithson and William T. Smithson. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Delthia Jean Canfield, Nina Smithson and Janie Canfield. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2020 at Hunter Funeral Home with Bro. Donald Fowler and Bro. Thurman Seber officiating. Visitation 1 p.m. till service time on Friday. Friends will serve as pallbearers. Interment at Hunter Memorial Park.
