Bill
Hunter
Oct 13, 1942 — Apr 17, 2026
Watertown
William Hunter, a gifted portrait artist whose work captured not only likeness but the spirit of his subjects, passed away peacefully at home on Apr 17, 2026, in Watertown, TN. He was 83 years old.
Born on Oct 13, 1942, Bill devoted his life to the pursuit of beauty in all its forms. He built his career in New York City, where he became known for his evocative pre-Raphaelite paintings. His work reflected a rare ability to see beyond the surface, revealing the beauty in humanity.
Bill was married to his beloved wife Patricia for 31 years until her passing in 1998, and together they shared a daughter, Bianca.
He graduated high school in Lebanon, TN in 1960 and then attended MTSU. From there, he moved to New York for a chance to live out his dream as one of the great American artists. His clientele spanned from friends, neighbors and family members to some of the greatest artists (Andy Warhol), writers (Tennessee Williams), actors (Harvey Heitel), singers (Madonna) and so many more. His artwork has appeared in multiple films, music videos, stage performances, magazines and book covers over the span of his career.
He will be remembered not only for his artistic talent, but for his generous spirit and deep appreciation for the world around him. His kindness and warmth left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was a man who wanted nothing more than beauty, love, and art for everyone, and he saw the best in people who didn't always see it in themselves. In his later years, Billy shared his life with his partner of 23 years, Jimmy, who remained by his side until the end.
He is survived by his daughter, Bianca; three grandsons, Hunter, Henry, and Harley; three brothers, Mike, Tom, and Curry; and husband, James Foster. His legacy lives on through his art and in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2026 at American Heritage Tree Farm, 457 Riceland Road, Lebanon, TN.
